No Longer Slaves (by Jonathan David & Melissa Helser)

What promises these lyrics give to someone just coming to Jesus -- how He can take away our fears with His perfect love. How we are now and forever God's children and, because of that, we are safe.

No Longer Slaves

I am often amazed at how inspiring music lyrics can be when I sit down and read them like a poem. If we went to the same church, you might see me scribbling away during a song that touched me, so I can later google all the words. It’s a great addition to my quiet time with God — reading over and meditating on certain lyrics that praise Him or give me hope or strength. So many artists are abundantly gifted with the ability to reach people’s hearts in this way.

This particular song popped up on my Spotify app this morning (during a rare moment when my toddler doesn’t “demand” VeggieTales music!) and I immediately thought of new Christians. What promises these lyrics give to someone just coming to Jesus — how He can take away our fears with His perfect love. How we are now and forever God’s children and, because of that, we are safe. It’s an encouraging message and reminder to all Christians, of course, but for those newly in the Family, it might be the first time they’ve heard concepts and aspects to the faith.

If you know someone who has recently surrendered their life to Christ, send this along to them today! If you have a pre-Christian (as I like to call them) in your life, save this little post to share with them when they come to Jesus. I hope it encourages you all as it did me.

(See the lyrics below.)

You unravel me with a melody
You surround me with a song
Of deliverance from my enemies
‘Til all my fears are gone

I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

From my mother’s womb
You have chosen me
Love has called my name
I’ve been born again
Into your family
Your blood flows through my veins

I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

I am surrounded
By the arms of the father
I am surrounded
By songs of deliverance

We’ve been liberated
From our bondage
We’re the sons and the daughters
Let us sing our freedom

You split the sea
So I could walk right through it
My fears were drowned in perfect love
You rescued me
And I could stand and sing
I am a child of God…

You split the sea
So I could walk right through it
You drowned my fears in perfect love
You rescued me
And I will stand and sing
I am a child of God

Yes, I am
I am a child of God
I am a child of God
Yes, I am
I am a child of God
Full of faith
Yes, I am a child of God
I am a child of God

I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
